Friday Faves

Happy Friday! I'm absolutely looking forward to the lovely long weekend! I need a little mental break from school and all. Here are my Friday Favorites!

Wrecking Ball | This is a new song by Miley Cyrus. We all know how insane she went with We Can't  Stop, but this song is really good! It shows off her true singing talents and it's not about just partying and twerking!

J.Crew Factory Sale | There is a new J.Crew Factory near me in a new mall that just opened up. The mall is literally 15 minutes away and J.Crew Factory is offering 40-50% off everything in the store! I need to hit up that place soon!

Have a great Friday!

What are your Friday Favorites?

I'm Sorry

Hey y'all. No post for today. Last night I was utterly exhausted from babysitting for 6 hours after practice and had no energy or will-power to write a post. Hope you can understand.

Skincare Routine

Okay, so I would say I have pretty decent skin. Everyone has those occasional breakouts, but lucky for me my skin is generally pretty clear. But, every skin has its flaws. My skin is very dry and sensitive to anything that I put on it. So I thought I'd show you my current skincare routine. This is not a super intense routine or anything, just the products that I use, what I think they're good for and how/when I use them.

Let's get started!

These are the 3 products that I use, but let me get into a little more depth about each individual skincare item.

Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Cleansing Pads | I just recently started using these facial pads and so far they are great! I have very sensitive skin {I mean the slightest little thing can make me break out} so I am very careful about what products I use. On the website, this product is getting mixed reviews so be sure to check those out if you are thinking about purchasing it. It comes with 28 cotton pads that are basically soaked in the product. This is really convienent for me in the morning, especially if I'm running low on time as I can just grab one and wipe it all over my face and rinse. As simple as that. It has one side that is cleansing and one side that has a gentle exfoliant. It removes all of my makeup, any oils and keeps my skin looking radiant.

Clearasil Rapid Action Daily Face Wash | I've been using this since mid-summer and I absolutely loved it. After going to Drill Camp I had some pretty bad breakouts just because I was sweating so much from dance and the oil got into my skin. It was not fun, but I quickly bought this face wash. It cleared up my skin very quickly and it still continues to keep my skin clear. I use this especially after practice to get rid of all excess oils and clean my face from all of the sweat and gross stuff that has collected over the course of the day. It is easier for me just to use this to remove my makeup as well.

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion | All of these products seriously have long titles! Goodness! Currently I actually do not have this product, but I need to buy it again. Especially with cooler weather coming, my skin tends to dry out very quickly. I've used this product repeatedly before so I'm not sure why I decided to buy a different moisturizer. But now I know that this is the one that works best! It lightly moisturizes my skin without making it oily.

I hope y'all enjoyed this post. Keep in mind that everyone has different skin though so be sure to pick the right products for you. Talk to you later!

Black & White

So for some reason I've been on a sort of Pinterest lull. I really have not been pinning anything recently and I'm not quite sure why. I think in the summer I had a lot of free time where I would just be pinning all the time on my phone. But now that I'm back in school, I haven't had much time to pin anything. I'm not saying I should get back on track to pinning because it definitely wastes time, but I think that for the blogs sake, it is good to pin because I've been feeling a little uninspired recently.

So anyway, getting back into the swing of things {involving Pinterest} I thought I'd show you some of my favorite black and white photo pins. I was pretty inspired when I first started pinning and I saw Frannie had a black and white photo board. So I kind of copied her...ha ha. Okay so anyway, here are my favorite black and white photo pins.

My sis & da bestie

Hey everyone! So instead of my Sunday Pinnings, today is a very special Sunday. It is my sister Kristen's and one of my absolute best friend Ava's birthday!

Let's start with my sister. Cuz blood's thicker than water.

Kristen! I just wrote a post about you so you are probably ecstatic that you are featured in two blog posts!

I just wanted to say that you are legit the best sister ever, although I don't always show it. You always give me advice and are always there for me. I couldn't imagine my life without you, and if I could it would be one freaky and horrible life. You are so much fun to be around and I love spending time with you. You are seriously so amazing and I never want my life to be without you. So be safe at college and get good grades haha! But have fun too! I love you to the moon and back and you mean so much to me!

Some of our fabulous memories:

-Zachary, Codary
-A two day chicken college!
-The Ian lookalike
-Sleeping in the same bunkbed as children {why did we do that?}
-Our horrible plays with the Suki's {Claire was "the lights"}
-being the weirdest kids alive
-Spanish Ladies dancing {ohhh goodness is that hysterical}
-Malibu Barbie & Ken
-me helping you with everything {when you attempt to bake, use the internet or do anything random}
-& more. I mean we've lived together our whole lives so obviously there are more cray moments in our lives
-Texas Road House...it's so good

Now here are some photos of you. This is the exact same collage that I posted when I wrote about you leaving for college, but I figured I couldn't really make a better one so here you go!

Okay, so now onto Ava. Ava we have been friends since third grade when I was actually the worst person ever and I was such a bully. I'm so sorry for those years, but we still managed to stay friends from all of those rough issues {all my fault} and are still best friends! I love hanging out with you and you are actually hysterical. You make me laugh because of how wild and crazy you are. You're actually psycho, but I love you for it. And seriously, "I'm so much better than before!" Okay so I love you so much and let's please always be friends because you are amazing.

Memories:

-singing Legally Blonde in the street & twerking
-Gas Pedal {that was like a night ago}
-walking linked arm & arm in third grade
-you trying to go to Lolla
-the classic Ava bun {top knot}
-you talking in your sleep
-the everyday hair curling of your hair
-showers in the backyard
-getting Harper!
-tent sleepovers
-+ more that I'm too dumb to think of

Now here are some classic Ava photos.

I love you both so much and wish you both a happy and amazing birthday!

I love you guys to the moon and back.

Friday Faves

I have basically given up on Flirty Friday's because I don't really like making Polyvore's anymore. I used to be so into them, but for some reason now I don't feel that much of a thrill putting those outfits together. So instead I thought of a new theme for Friday faves!  I just wanted to share with you some of the things I've been loving whether it's clothes, a store, music, anything! Today I'll be posting a new favorite quote of mine. Keep in mind some of the authors are not noted {when I post quotes} because I either made it up myself or didn't write down the author.

So to end the week on a positive note here is a quote that I actually wrote myself!

I don't really now how I came up with this quote, but always find myself reminding myself of it. What's cool about it is that it can be used in good or bad situations.

If I'm in a bad position {usually if I'm bored during a class in school} I think to myself, "Time does nothing but pass. I will not be stuck here forever."

But also this quote may be used in a good situation. Whenever I'm having a lot of fun I think to myself, "Time does nothing but pass, so I better live up this moment right now and have a ton of fun."

Hope you guys like my original quote! And comment below if you want to see more quotes featured on this blog!

What are your favorite quotes?

Oh, goodness.

So I just started school on Monday, and already I'm having trouble managing. I'm really not getting homework {just the beginning papers that your parents have to sign}, but it's just been stressful already. I think that the days are just extremely long. I wake up at about 6:30 {although yesterday morning was crazy and I woke up at 7:16} and then get ready and leave for school at 7:30. I go to school until 3:04 and then I head directly to drill practice. Drill goes from 3:30-5:30 {6 on Mondays}. I really didn't think this would be that hard to manage because we used to go to 5 for JV, but honestly practice just drags on. I love being on drill team, but it's such a commitment and it's every single day. But, the upside is that the performances are going to be a ton of fun!

Also, I just feel that I get no social time. I see my friends at lunch, but that's really it. When I used to have study hall it was a nice balance because I had study hall and lunch directly after. This way I was getting some work done, but in a more laid-back environment. I could also talk to my friends and then go to lunch and talk some more. But now, with classes like cray I only have lunch to be social. And then drill is right after school so I never see my friends then either.

I think that this year is going much better than freshman year {I had a lot of issues adjusting, not sure why}, but still it's just been a little bit weird.

And I miss my old classes to be honest. I was never that good of friends with a lot of the kids in my classes last year, but they were just a familiar face. And there were multiple people that I had 2 or more classes so I was pretty familiar with them. But, now it's all new. It's a lot of new faces {which I'm excited about}, but I can't see a lot of the kids in my classes me becoming close to. But watch that change in like a month or so. Haha.

So that's just a little update for you on my sophomore year so far!

Hope you're having a fun school year so far, or are living up those last few days of summer.

How's your school year going so far?

katelyn

Here We Go Again

I'm officially back to school. School actually started yesterday and let's just say I strongly wasn't looking forward to it. I really just hate school in general, but this year my classes seem pretty interesting. Here's what I'm taking and a brief summary.

History of Chicago
I think this class will be super interesting, plus we get to go on two field trips to the city so that's just a bonus!

Spanish
This is a required class, but we use iPads every day in this class now which seems pretty cool. We used iPads in eighth grade {like they gave us one to keep for the whole year} so I mean I've used them for school before.

English A/J
I'm super excited for this class. It is an English class more geared towards journalism which is so relevant to me. I love writing {if you can't tell} and I think this class will definitely benefit my writing and help my blog posts be better too!

Clothing Construction & Design
I'm so excited for this class! It is basically a sewing class and we get to make our own clothes which I think will be so much fun! Plus, if you fly through all of the required projects you can just make whatever you want!

Chemistry
This is just a required class, but my teacher reminds me a lot of Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl so that is pretty cool haha.

Geometry
Obviously just a regular old math class. I'm actually terrible at math so I'm not really looking forward to this class, but whatever. Haha.

Drivers Education
This is in place of gym for the first semester and I'm super nervous for this class. I'm already relieved though because I got my permit early so I have these first 3-4 days where I have to do nothing while all the others stress about studying for the permit test. Haha YAY ME {London Tipton, anyone?}!

By the way did I mention that I made Varsity Drill Team! I was pretty nervous about making Varsity {since I'm only a sophomore}, but I basically know everyone and it is going to be such a fun season!

This first practice was super brutal, but one of the "assistant-ish" coaches definitely whipped us into shape. She's strict, but I like it that we get things done while she's here. She's definitely helping me improve a ton.

Okay so here are some pics of my school supplies, which I've been loving!

My totes adorable binders! The binders are the Avery DualColor 1" binders. My Lilly print binder cover slips are made by Chloe from the Preppy Diaries

My planner is the Lilly Pulitzer planner from last year. It goes up until the end of December so I'm going to continue using this planner and hopefully get a new one for Christmas. My pencil case is a makeup case from Target {hopefully I'll get a new one I don't love this one} and I just have some random pens/pencils inside it.

All of my notebooks are 5 Star notebooks. The purple is a three-subject and the rest are one-subject.

Have you started school? What supplies are you using?

Au Revoir

Hey guys. So on Monday I dropped my sister off at college. I will definitely miss her while she's away, but she's going to have such a blast at college. Plus, she's always wanted to be featured on my blog so I thought {just this once haha}I could post a collage of her.

Anyways, Kristen. I'll miss you like cray while you're gone, but have a fabulous time at college! You're going to have so much fun and make a ton of new friends. But don't forget be responsible and as Paige says, "Stay classy, never trashy and always a little bit sassy." You are the best sister ever and it's gonna be hard not having anyone to show what I bought shopping {I guess I'll show Brian}. Love you girl! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

Meet Katelyn.

So after I was nominated for the Liebster Award and was posting 11 facts about myself I got to thinking that you guys probably don't know that much about me {unless you're one of my friends that I go to school with or something}. And I always get so aggravated when I'm looking on someone's blog and they have nothing about him/herself! I'm not trying to call anyone out whatsoever, but it's frustrating because I like knowing some general facts about the person behind the blog. So here's a little update of who I am.

{P.S. This will also be posted on the "About The Blogger" page.}

And, the color scheme is giving you a little sneak peek as to the new blog design hopefully coming soon. I know I said I was going pink + green, but I changed my mind. I'm just always so indecisive.  Silly Katelyn! Okay, so here we go!

School Smarts Part IV: Hairstyles for School

Whenever I go back to school, I always want to come back looking fabulous. You gotta show everyone that you became super gorgeous over the summer! Haha just kidding, but still you want to look your best. So on Pinterest I've been finding some really cute hairstyles that I think would be perfect for back to school. I almost always wear my hair up, but have been trying to wear it down recently. I usually just wear it in a ponytail because that way it keeps it out of my way. But these looks would be perfect for rocking your hair down or up!

Such a fun way to add a fishtail to a rather plain pony.

If I could only do a perfect top knot...

Crown braid with gorgeous waves.

Effortless messy fishtail.

The bow adds an adorable girly touch.

Perfect layered waves.

Makes the pony that much more chic.

Perfect for those lazy days {and bad hair days}.

What are your favorite back to school hairstyles?

School Smarts Part III: Managing Everything

Hey everybody! So next in my back to school series is my post on how to manage everything throughout the school year. This post is more targeted towards high school students {freshman especially}, but these tips could be helpful to a student of any year!

These tips that I'm sharing with you is something that I wish someone would have told me before I jumped right into freshman year. I think that last year {freshman year}, was definitely not my best school year academically or socially. So anyways, here we go. Here are my tips to managing everything: from blogging, to sports, to everything in between. Let's get started!

School

This is the most important above them all. You are at school to learn. Getting good grades and learning is the most important. I find that time management is especially necessary during any grade. I do not have this mastered, by any means, but I think that I've grown since the start of freshman year. I think that the most important thing is trying your best and preparing yourself for everything.

"Failing to prepare, is preparing to fail."

-Benjamin Franklin

This quote really does sum it all up. Basically working hard in school should come before all others. Focusing to get all of your school work done, and done well. I know that sometimes I like to take the short cuts and skip out on doing some homework that never gets checked, but this will only hurt you. I find that with everything else that's going on, getting your homework done is a huge time chunk. Whatever time I get home from my sport {freshman year I got home around 5:30}, I sometimes would just goof around and do nothing. But this year-no more! I'm going to be coming home and immediately working on my homework. This gets all of that out of the way so that I have more time to do what I want.

Sports/Clubs

Everyone basically gets involved in sports during school. If you don't, you should! Getting involved is a great way to make a ton of friends and looks amazing on college applications! Plus, believe it or not I find that being on a team that has a huge time commitment actually helps me to get things done! I find that when time is limited, I buckle down and get things done. If I'm given more time to do things, I tend to dilly dally then panic at the last second. Definitely join something, but remember that school should come before sports.

Hard Classes

I dealt with way to many issues with difficult classes last year, and I'm determined to not repeat it this year. I should have switched out in the first place rather than giving myself a whole year of a horrible class. Also, if a class is difficult: get a tutor! If you can afford a private tutor, great! If not, there are plenty of tutors {usually teachers} at most schools that meet in certain areas to help kids on their homework! Last year I most definitely should have gotten a Biology and Math tutor, yet I didn't. I'm not making the same mistake this year and I'm definitely getting a Chemistry tutor! I may or may not get a Math tutor depending on how the class goes/how my teacher is. Classes are meant to challenge you, but don't let them take control of your GPA and force you to get low grades from a class that is too difficult for you.

Social Time

I found it pretty difficult last year to be on drill team and have a social life. But honestly, I managed. I think what you have to remember is that a lot of your friends are probably on teams as well. This was true for me so I really wasn't missing out. My friends were also always busy with their teams so we were all on the same page. Plus, there's always the weekends. Try to make as many friends as you can in your classes/clubs/sports so you are still having a social life!

Blogging

I know that blogging is a very time consuming task. For me, I find that I love writing my posts at nighttime when I get into bed. I usually am just searching the web on my laptop so I write my post and then schedule it to midnight. Another option is to schedule your posts for the week over the weekend. That way you are not using up valuable weekday time. And always feel free to take a break from blogging every once in a while. Your readers will understand because I'm sure a lot of them are overwhelmed with school throughout the year as well.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope this helped some of you to have a successful school year. Let me know what you think in the comments below!

What are your secrets to success in managing everything throughout school?

I look forward to hearing from you!

School Smarts Part II: Clothes & Style {for the fall}

With all the bustling of back to school, shopping always comes into play. Shopping for supplies is usually first, but everyone can use a couple new back to school outfits! Today I'll be sharing with you my back to school clothing ideas for fall and how to rock your favorite style.

My Back To School Shopping List

Jeans
I literally have no jeans other than colored ones. I need just a classic dark wash pair of jeans {well a few pairs} to wear just on an every day basis.

Boots
I need riding boots so badly right now. Well, I need boots very badly in general. My mom got rid of my Uggs, but it was time for them to go. Now that has left me with no boots, so I think it's time to invest in a lovely pair of brown riding boots. If you have any suggestions leave a comment below!

Sweaters
A girl can always use a few more sweaters. I've been looking for ones with fun fall prints and ones with fall colors.

Oxfords/Loafers
I love the look of oxfords, but I love loafers even better. I found the most perfect pair of J.Crew loafers, but at $258 I can't afford them. They are so adorable, but that's too much of an investment into shoes that I wouldn't really live in {I've been thinking of doing a DIY studded loafers post, let me know if you'd like to see that!}. I'd rather spend my money on a nice pair of boots or with that money Final Cut Pro X which I've been dying to purchase.

Classic Shirts
I absolutely love my most recent purchase from J.Crew. It is the class button down shirt in plaid. I love the colors in it and I'm loving the overall style of it. I definitely want to purchase more of these classic shirts because you can literally just throw them on with a pair of jeans and look so put together and fabulous! Gotta love them!

Now I wanted to share with you my secrets on how to rock any style!

1. Strut it. Okay, I'm not saying walk down the school hallways with a runway walk, but definitely walk with confidence! I think part of rocking a fashion is having confidence while you wear it.

2. Mix don't match. I love this saying {although I find it hard to actually do in my outfits haha}. I think it's to add a sense of high fashion into your look by mixing patterns and prints that have similar colors going on, but don't overdo it!

3. Life's a party dress like it {Lilly Pulitzer}. This saying is by far my favorite of all time. I find this to be so true. So next time you just want to 'be comfy' at school and are about to throw on your favorite sweats, go for a cute outfit instead. Wearing a cute outfit makes me pleased with myself when I look in the mirror. I'm not saying don't have lazy days, but I think dressing up for school is totally worth it. Plus, people will really commend you for it later. Plus, who doesn't want all those compliments on what you're wearing?

Hope you guys enjoyed my post on back to school clothes & style!

What are you hoping to purchase for school? How do you rock your favorite style? Comment below!

P.S. I have Drill Team tryouts starting today and going through Saturday. Wish me luck! I'm really hoping to make Varsity this year, and I think I can do it if I work super hard. Let's go!

xoxo, Katelyn

School Smarts Part I: Supplies

Hey guys! So this is the first of a couple of back to school posts. Today I wanted to share with you my back to school supplies essentials. Obviously, everyone knows what the basics are for school, but I wanted to show you my personal favorites and how I strive for success through my supplies. These are the supplies that I found myself always using throughout the school year.

Pencils & Pens:

This is pretty obvious, but you seriously need pens and pencils! I find that using the Ticonderoga pencils work best because they are fabulous quality. I like mechanical pencils, but I'm always running out of lead. For pens my favorite are Sharpie, Uni-Ball and Le Pen. Sharpie's are really just an essential for labeling all of your supplies and come in handy. Uni-Ball I find write very crisp and clean and glide on the paper. Le Pen come in so many different colors that they are perfect for taking notes and organization.

Folders:

Clearly, folders are a must for school. This is where you should splurge on nice folders because you're going to be using them all year long. Buy the more expensive durable ones because they will be sure to last all year. Also, to prevent any rips in your folders keep your folder clean of old papers from old units and store your old papers in a file cabinet at home for easy access when finals come around.

Binders:

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of binders, but they are necessary for some classes. Always get various colors so that each binder may be determinable quickly. Also, keep your binders organized. I cannot stress this enough. I've wasted too much time cleaning out binders from classes and going through each individual paper to organize when it would have been so much easier to just keep it organized from the beginning. Use dividers to keep your binder organized and don't overstuff your binder!

Notebooks:

I always go for the Five Star 3 subject notebooks because they are a good size. They are not too big like the 5 subject ones, but they are not too small like the 1 subject ones. I pick different colors for each subject and label them on the outside with a Sharpie {always be sure to label everything with your name on it in case it gets lost}. Go for ones with cute patterns or colors for added fabulousness to your school supplies.

Backpack:

Obviously you're going to need something to carry all of your supplies in so opt for your favorite method: tote bag, backpack, keeping things in your locker? You pick! I like using a backpack because I find it easiest {and is nice to my shoulders}. The North Face ones are especially great because they do not inflate with air like the Adidas ones do {I made that mistake and had a super freshman looking backpack}.

Hope this helped you with determining what you need for this upcoming school year!

I go back on Tuesday, August 20. Yippe! NOT!

When do you go back?

xoxo, Katelyn

Live Each Day

So I am most definitely a complainer. I always tend to find the worst in every situation, which is definitely not an attractive trait. I've been really trying to change this because I don't want to be such a downer! And the other day I was watching Camp {see this post about the show}, and one of the characters said that he tries to make three awesome things happen each day. I was sort of inspired by this and started pinning all sorts of quotes about having a good time and just living life to the fullest. I think that these quotes really help get me motivated to have fun and make the most of every situation. These are my current favorites.

Design Darling Picks

I saw that the College Prepster posted about Design Darling's Mackenzie Horan turning 24! So in honor of her fabulous 24th birthday she is offering 24% off everything from her design darling boutique. Carly showed a few of her favorite things from the shop so I thought I'd show you mine too! Here are my favorite things from the Design Darling Boutique.
